Accor North America’s 16,000 employees represent many age groups, ethnicities, family structures, abilities, gender identity, races, religions, sexual orientations, tenure, and work-life experiences. We speak many languages, come from a wide array of cultures, and comprise diverse educational backgrounds. When it comes to the broad horizon of human experience, our diversity encompasses all facets of imagination and innovation.
We want all of our new employees to understand the importance we place on diversity and inclusion. Our Embracing Diversity curriculum helps employees develop leadership skills and raise awareness and sensitivity around understanding and interacting effectively with co-workers and guests of different backgrounds.
Since 2003, more than 4,000 new employees have participated in diversity training across the entire organization. In 2006, a generational diversity training class was added to the Accor Business and Leisure and Académie Accor North America curriculum offerings.
Career development is an important part of Accor North America’s human resources and diversity strategy. Since 2003, we have hosted a mentoring program for employees who are interested in managing their career and professional development. Selected protégés are partnered with a mentor for one year to work on three targeted areas: a professional, organizational and personal goal.
Accor is concerned about creating and sustaining a diverse workforce today, and for the future. Developing a pipeline of diverse talent requires an investment and commitment to develop industry leaders of tomorrow. Recognizing that a college education often seems out of reach for first-generation college students, we created the Accor Hospitality Management Scholarship fund, which will provide financial resources for qualified students with a passion for pursuing a career in the hotel industry. Endowment funds were established at Johnson & Wales University, Pennsylvania State University and the University of Houston.
